You First Camping Trip And Planning It

Even if you’ve been camping with your parents, if you’ve never been camping alone, there are afew pointers you should know.

Firstly, although it may seem like a lot of effort for nothing, you will want to check your tent and other equipment. About a week before you leave for your trip, set up the tent. This way you know that you have all of the necessary parts to assemble the tent. Check for any holes or damage, especially in the floor and roof of the tent, and thatís where water will come in if it rains.

Make sure there is not a hole in the inflatable mattress if you are bringing one, whether you have an air mattress or not be sure to bring a sleeping bag and a pillow. Falling asleep on a full matress and waking up on the ground is not enjoyable. Pack an extra blanket in case of cold tempuratures at night.

Remember everything you need to make a meal if you plan on cooking at the campsite. It is a good idea to bring cutlery, one or two small pots and a grid to place on the fire in case of barbecuing. Bringing a small gas cooker will make it more conveinant to cook so you dont have to start a fire for every meal or cup  of coffee. Consider refilling the gas before you leave. You will also need cleaning materials to wash and dry the dishes.

Make sure nothing has been opened and is sealed tightly to prevent spills of your non-perishable foods. Pack any condiments and spices you like, it is often forgotten. It is a good idea to use one container for all of the food so it can be used as a pantry for the trip, and keep all liquids in plastic bags so it doesnt get dry food wet. Buy perishables as you need them, If you decide to bring them, keep it at a minimum and pack them just before you leave.

You must provide all your own toiletries, often including toilet tissue. Sometimes you may even need your own bath plug, so take a couple of different sizes just in case. If there is a community shower, you should cring plastic or rubber flip flops to wear while showering. A small bag or basket can help keep all of your belongings together while heading to the shower.

Most things you forget or run out of can be purchased at a local store unless your site is completely remote. Good preparation means you can relax once you arrive, soak up nature and relish the accomplishment of a well organised camping trip.
